In the area
We’re incredibly lucky to have such spectacular scenery right on our doorstep! There’s no excuse for not putting on your walking boots or jumping on a mountain bike (or kayak for that matter) and exploring. Here’s a tiny snapshot of the local area to get you started - you’ll find lots more ideas and information in our house guestbook, or download our things to do guide here:
Snowdonia National Park
The Big House on the Hill is perfectly located 50 minutes drive to the heart of the Snowdonia National Park, which is one of the most spectacular landscapes in the whole of the UK.
It’s a world renown location for hiking, but there’s thousands of things to enjoy, from waterfalls, over 100 lakes, stunning beaches on the west coast, world-class mountain biking and the vintage steam railway that climbs the highest peak in Wales, Snowdon.
Lake Vyrnwy
Lake Vyrnwy is set in the beautiful Berwyn Mountains, just a short 15 minute drive from the house. With beautiful walks, viewpoints and scenery, the area is an RSPB reserve with visitor centre.
Below the dam is a sculpture park and picnic area, and there are plenty of activities, with cycle hire, boat hire and horse trails.
Pistyll Rhaeadr
Pistyll Rhaeadr is an enchanting waterfall in the Berwyn Mountains, a 10 minute drive from the house.
At 240ft (80m) high it is Britain's tallest single-drop waterfall, and it’s great place to start to explore the Berwyn Mountains and surrounding hills, with many walks to suit a variety of walkers..
